Just finished paying off my ‘14 Forester. Bought it CPO in October 2015 so I used 36 of the 60 month loan. It joins our ‘13 Outback in the lien-free club. Feels good but will feel even better if the bank gets the title to me by the end of the month so I can get it registered here in NM before my TX tags expire.

Just paid off my GTI recently. First time I’ve been debt free except the house since 2000. Only problem is now I have two MY 2013 German cars both with about 75k.
Which will last longer??? The MINI or the VW? So far the MINI is most reliable car we’ve had in a long time and GTI is most unreliable car we’ve ever owned.

Wow impressive. How do you do that? Pay more principal each month?

Thanks!

On the plus side if you get fed up with repairs you have a title in hand to sell one quickly. FWIW I’ve heard the Mk7 GTIs are a lot more reliable if you want to stick with VW.

Actually I was just making the payment every other week until today. It was 1.65% on an original principal of around $16k so payments were about $130 /biweekly and I didn’t have a lot of incentive to pay it early. But I was looking at my savings and just decided it wouldn’t hurt too much to pay the final $6,7 00 today and be done with it. The Outback we paid off 48 months into 60 and did a little weird. I had it on autopay from a bank account that I set up just for that car. I was putting about $10 0 more than the payment into the account to have some money in there for repairs, but the car didn’t need anything and in 4 years that grew into enough to pay off the final year.

True that, but there’s a good chance I’ll be back to two car payments someday
Actually thinking of replacing the VW with a Model 3 if a Tesla is still in business long enough to bring out the cheaper models next year that I can barely afford.

I was looking at Model 3’s on Tesla’s website this morning and couldn’t configure one that I liked for under $6 0k then I realized that used Model S P85’s are selling for under $40k now and got seriously tempted.

I actually put the $1000 deposit about a month after they announced so I’d have the option to order early adopter style but now with our 18 month son who wasn’t even a glint in my eye at the time even the most poverty spec models supposedly coming out next year are really at the upper limit of what I can afford. But Doug and Mr. Regular only made me want it more.
